ENAS Accreditation and ILAC-MRA: What They Mean for Your Certificates

What ENAS accreditation and the ILAC-MRA mean for UAE calibration certificates, and how to check a laboratory's scope before you send equipment.

ENAS, the Emirates National Accreditation System, is the UAE's national accreditation body. It assesses laboratories against ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and grants accreditation for a defined scope: the parameters, ranges and measurement uncertainties the laboratory has shown it can deliver competently. Each accredited laboratory has a reference number. Veta Infinity's calibration laboratory in ICAD-1, Abu Dhabi is accredited under NAL 228.

ENAS is a signatory to the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC-MRA). Accreditation bodies in the arrangement are peer-evaluated and accept each other's accredited results as equivalent. In practice, a calibration certificate issued under ENAS accreditation can be accepted by auditors and customers in other signatory countries, which helps exporters and companies working to international standards.

Accreditation only covers what is listed in the scope. Before you send an instrument, check that its parameter and range are on the laboratory's scope, and that the CMC is small enough for your tolerance. Then check that the certificate carries the accreditation mark and reports measurement uncertainty and traceability. Work outside the scope may still be technically sound, but it is not an accredited result. Our scope is listed on our Accreditations page.
