Medical Equipment PPM in Abu Dhabi: A Guide for Clinics

How a planned preventive maintenance (PPM) programme keeps medical equipment safe, reduces breakdowns and gives you the records DoH and MOHAP inspectors ask for.

Planned preventive maintenance (PPM) is a scheduled programme of inspection, testing and servicing for medical equipment. Its aim is simple: find faults before they affect a patient, and keep a record that proves the equipment was checked. In Abu Dhabi, facilities licensed by the Department of Health (DoH) are expected to show documented maintenance for their medical equipment, and MOHAP-licensed facilities in other emirates face similar checks.

A typical PPM visit follows the manufacturer's recommendations and a written checklist. It covers a visual inspection, functional checks, performance checks against a reference (for example, pressure readings on a BP monitor), electrical safety testing and cleaning of accessible parts. Faults are recorded and reported, and the equipment is usually labelled with the visit date and the next due date. Regular PPM reduces unexpected downtime and helps you plan repairs and replacements.

Veta Infinity carries out inspection and preventive maintenance for around 40 equipment types, including ECG machines, BP monitors, patient monitors, spirometers, AEDs, hospital beds, centrifuges, X-ray units and physiotherapy equipment. Each item receives an inspection and PPM checklist certificate, giving clinics and hospitals a clear record for DoH compliance audits.
